Monique van Berkel travaille depuis son atelier à Rucphen (Pays Bas), où elle donne vie à des peintures colorées. Inspirée par sa formation auprès de l’artiste plasticienne Debbie Nijland et par ses études à l’IKO De Kunstacademie en Belgique, Monique a développé un langage visuel distinctif qui lui est propre.

À travers des collages et des dessins, elle tisse des images dans des compositions parfois ludiquement absurdes, mais toujours surprenantes.

Monique van Berkel works from her studio in Rucphen, where she brings colourful paintings to life. Inspired by her training with visual artist Debbie Nijland and her studies at IKO De Kunstacademie in Belgium, Monique has developed a distinctive visual language of her own.

Through collages and drawings, she weaves imagery into compositions that are sometimes playfully absurd, yet always surprising.

Monique van Berkel werkt vanuit haar atelier in Rucphen, waar zij kleurrijke schilderijen tot leven brengt. Geïnspireerd door haar opleiding bij beeldend kunstenaar Debbie Nijland en haar studie aan het IKO De Kunstacademie in België, ontwikkelt Monique een geheel eigen beeldtaal.

Met collages en tekeningen verweeft zij beelden tot composities die soms speels absurd, maar altijd verrassend zijn.

Dans mon travail le plus récent, je souhaite approfondir davantage les contrastes tels que le brut et le raffiné, le fragile et le robuste, le stable et l’instable.

Cela reste un défi de voir si je parviendrai à réaliser ce que j’ai en tête ; j’espère que les œuvres parleront aux visiteurs de cette exposition. En cette période de contrastes partout dans le monde, les différences deviennent de plus en plus grandes : riches contre pauvres, guerre contre paix, accord contre désaccord.

La certitude et la sécurité ne vont plus de soi dans le monde dans lequel nous vivons actuellement, et, par conséquent, la stabilité disparaît.

In my most recent work, I want to explore more deeply contrasts such as rough and refined, fragile and robust, stable and unstable.

This raises the challenge of whether I will succeed in achieving what I have in mind. I hope the works will resonate with the visitors of this exhibition. In this time of contrasts everywhere in the world, the differences are becoming ever greater: rich vs. poor, war vs. peace, agreement vs. disagreement.

Certainty and safety are no longer self-evident in the world we currently live in, and as a result stability is disappearing.

In mijn nieuwste werk wil ik mezelf meer verdiepen in tegenstellingen als ruw en verfijnd, fragiel en robuust, stabiel en instabiel.

Dit daagt wel uit of het zal lukken wat ik voor ogen heb, hopelijk spreken de werkstukken de bezoekers van deze expositie aan. In deze tijd van tegenstellingen overal in de wereld worden dé verschillen steeds groter: rijk vs arm, oorlog vs vrede, eens vs oneens.

Zekerheid en veiligheid zijn niet meer vanzelfsprekend op dit moment in de wereld waarin we leven en daardoor verdwijnt stabiliteit.

Les œuvres de Debbie Nijland se situent entre le figuratif et l’expressionnisme, toujours avec une stratification qui invite à la découverte. Les couleurs et les formes semblent parfois harmonieuses, mais sous la surface on ressent tension et émotion. Elle nous montre ce qui fait mal. Ce n’est pas un art pour rêver ou s’évader, mais un art qui nous maintient éveillés.

Son œuvre est nourrie par des maîtres tels que Francisco Goya, James Ensor, Peter Paul Rubens, Pablo Picasso, Johannes Grützke et Neo Rauch. Leur langage visuel théâtral, dramatique, grotesque et parfois inquiétant, combiné à une grande maîtrise technique, constitue une source d’inspiration essentielle pour la signature artistique de Debbie.

Dans ses œuvres récentes, Debbie explore la vulnérabilité et l’inquiétude de notre époque. À partir d’une approche figurative et expressionniste émergent des images dans lesquelles la figure humaine reste reconnaissable, tout en étant déformée et partiellement dissimulée sous des couches de peinture.

Les sujets directs de ces peintures ne sont pas immédiatement visibles. Ils disparaissent dans le processus pictural, laissant surtout une atmosphère de tension, de déclin et d’incertitude. Les figures semblent prisonnières de leur posture et de leur regard, comme porteuses d’une inquiétude existentielle plus large.

En ne fixant pas complètement le sens, Debbie souhaite laisser place à l’interprétation. Les peintures invitent le spectateur à regarder et à réfléchir.

Debbie Nijland’s work moves between figurative and expressionist traditions, always with a layered quality that invites discovery. The colors and forms sometimes appear harmonious, but beneath the surface you can sense tension and emotion. She shows us what hurts. This is not art to drift away with, but art that keeps you awake.

Her work is nourished by masters such as Francisco Goya, James Ensor, Peter Paul Rubens, Pablo Picasso, Johannes Grützke, and Neo Rauch. Their theatrical, dramatic, grotesque, and sometimes unsettling visual language—combined with technical refinement—forms an important source of inspiration for Debbie’s own artistic signature.

In her recent work, Debbie explores the vulnerability and unrest of our time. From a figurative–expressionist approach emerge images in which the human figure remains recognisable, yet at the same time becomes distorted and partially concealed beneath layers of paint.

The direct subjects of these paintings are not clearly visible. They disappear within the painting process, leaving behind primarily an atmosphere of tension, decay, and uncertainty. The figures seem trapped in their posture and gaze, as carriers of a broader existential unrest.

By not fixing the meaning completely, Debbie aims to leave space for interpretation. The paintings invite the viewer to look and to reflect.

De kleuren en vormen lijken soms harmonieus, maar onder de oppervlakte voel je spanning en emotie. Ze laat ons zien wat pijn doet. Dit is geen kunst om bij weg te dromen, maar om wakker van te blijven.

De directe onderwerpen van deze schilderijen zijn niet eenduidig zichtbaar. Ze verdwijnen in het schilderproces, waardoor wat overblijft vooral een sfeer van spanning, verval en onzekerheid is. De figuren lijken gevangen in hun houding en blik, als dragers van een bredere existentiële onrust.

Door de betekenis niet volledig vast te leggen, wil Debbie ruimte laten voor interpretatie. De schilderijen nodigen de toeschouwer uit tot kijken en reflectie.

Ivo van Woerden (1979) est un écrivain, journaliste et artiste néerlandais qui vit en France.

La force motrice du travail de Van Woerden est son profond amour des histoires et sa curiosité. Les histoires apportent structure et clarté dans un monde immensément complexe auquel nous devons faire face. La curiosité garantit qu’il y a toujours quelque chose à découvrir, à apprendre, à explorer, et, espérons-le, à comprendre.

Ses écrits ont été publiés dans des journaux et magazines nationaux aux Pays-Bas, en Belgique, en Allemagne et en Norvège.
Van Woerden a écrit plusieurs livres : des histoires vraies avec une portée sociale. Il a travaillé sous couverture dans les soins aux personnes âgées, a reconstitué le premier incident de fusillade inspiré de Columbine aux Pays-Bas à travers les yeux des victimes, et a suivi une famille néerlandaise qui a trouvé un étranger dans son jardin et a voulu lui offrir une vie meilleure. Il a été nommé à plusieurs prix nationaux pour son travail journalistique et pour ses livres.

Dans ses dessins et peintures, Van Woerden cherche la beauté et l’humour, des contrepoids aux sujets lourds sur lesquels il écrit. Chaque jour, il se promène avec son chien Mec dans les forêts du Berry : la paix, la tranquillité et la beauté de la campagne, de la forêt et de la nature sauvage sont une source d’inspiration majeure.

Ivo van Woerden (1979) is a Dutch writer, journalist, and artist who lives in France.

The driving force behind Van Woerden’s work is his deep love of stories and his curiosity. Stories create structure and clarity in the immensely complex world we have to navigate. Curiosity ensures there is always something to discover, to learn, to investigate, and hopefully to understand.

His written work has been published in national newspapers and magazines in the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, and Norway.
Van Woerden has written several books: true stories with a social dimension. He worked undercover in elderly care, reconstructed the first Columbine-inspired shooting incident in the Netherlands through the eyes of the victims, and followed a Dutch family who found a stranger in their garden and wanted to give him a better life. He has been nominated for multiple national awards for both his journalistic work and his books.

In his drawings and paintings, Van Woerden seeks beauty and humor, counterbalances to the heavy topics he writes about. Every day, he walks with his dog Mec through the forests of Le Berry: the peace, calm, and beauty of the countryside, the woods, and the wild nature are a major source of inspiration.

A Measure of Days est une pratique quotidienne, commencée en février 2024.
Un collage est réalisé chaque jour. Avec le temps, ils s’accumulent en un champ dans lequel des relations émergent par répétition et variation. Chaque collage existe comme une œuvre distincte, tout en faisant partie de ce champ.
Le processus se poursuit dans la peinture, où des éléments réapparaissent à une autre échelle.

Frank den Os a exposé à l’international, avec des expositions récentes en France, en Corée du Sud, en Lettonie, au Royaume-Uni et aux États-Unis. Son travail fait partie de collections privées en Europe, au Royaume-Uni et aux États-Unis.

Avant de se consacrer aux arts visuels, il a travaillé comme dramaturge pour des productions théâtrales nationales et internationales.

A Measure of Days apparaît ici comme un champ continu, aux côtés d’une peinture de grand format produite dans le même processus.

One collage is made each day. Over time, they accumulate into a field in which relationships emerge through repetition and variation. Each collage exists as a discrete work, while also forming part of this field.
The process continues in painting, where elements reappear at a different scale.

Den Os has exhibited internationally, with recent exhibitions in France, South Korea, Latvia, the UK and the United States. His work is held in private collections across Europe, the UK and the United States.

Before focusing on visual art, he worked as a playwright for national and international theatre productions.

A Measure of Days appears here as a continuous field, alongside a large-scale painting produced within the same process.

A Measure of Days is een dagelijkse praktijk, begonnen in februari 2024.
Elke dag wordt één collage gemaakt. In de loop van de tijd stapelen ze zich op tot een veld waarin relaties ontstaan door herhaling en variatie. Elke collage bestaat als een afzonderlijk werk, en maakt tegelijk deel uit van dit veld.
Het proces zet zich voort in schilderkunst, waarin elementen op een andere schaal terugkeren.

Frank den Os heeft internationaal geëxposeerd, met recente tentoonstellingen in Frankrijk, Zuid-Korea, Letland, het Verenigd Koninkrijk en de Verenigde Staten. Zijn werk bevindt zich in privécollecties in Europa, het Verenigd Koninkrijk en de Verenigde Staten.

Voordat hij zich op beeldende kunst richtte, werkte hij als toneelschrijver voor nationale en internationale theaterproducties.
